Join Tree Pals

Tree Pals is looking for schools in the United States who are interested in implementing environmental education in the classroom, specifically concerning the benefits of trees to a healthy world and current environmental concerns such as global warming. Tree Pals will coordinate a tree planting project for each participating class as well as a letter writing exchange with a sister school in either Honduras and Nicaragua.

In addition, Tree Pals will provide teachers with environmental information on Nicaragua and Honduras so that students may better understand conditions in those countries, as well as several suggested lesson plans to use or modify at their discretion. Tree Pals also provides a set of stock questions to help elicit the best questions and discussion for the pen pal program. Tree Pals classes can be any grade from elementary and middle school, and there are some opportunities for early high school classes as well.

Although we are based in the Washington, D.C. metro area, this does not prevent schools in any area of the U.S. from participating.

We are preparing to launch the program for the Fall 2009 school year. Any interested parties should fill out the following online form, or go to our contact page and contact our Program Coordinator, Ryan Murphy.
