The Tree Pals Program
The tree pals program consist of 3 components: classroom education, tree planting, and letter writing.
Classroom Education
Tree Pals works with teachers to develop lessons that relate our work to their classes needs.
Lesson plans can take almost any form but should cover topics such as environmental challenges, sustainable agriculture, global warming, and issues of environmental degradation.
Tree Planting
Every international project is developed in partnership with the schools and students’ communities to meet their needs and put the trees to their best possible use. Most of our efforts work to improve the soil quality of crop fields, reforest degraded lands and prevent erosion.
US projects are geared more generally to get students thinking about the importance of reforestation. Classes can decide what kinds of trees to plant and where they want them to go—school grounds, neighborhood or another appropriate place
Letter Writing
At least 4 letters (2 per class) will be exchanged over the course of the school year, but more communication is encouraged if students and teachers desire it. Letters can be written in groups or individually, whatever method is preferred. Tree Pals will translate letters for all classes and ensure their delivery.
Tree Pals is confident that participating students will see environmental concerns transcend language, geography and culture, and will be instilled with a foundation for sound stewardship.
